Rewriting the “Book of Law”

a witch and her spellbook.JPG

The following exploration was inspired by a concept from the book, The Four Agreements, called the Book of Law:

“The domestication is so strong that at a certain point in our lives we no longer need anyone to domesticate us. We don’t need Mom or Dad, the school or the church to domesticate us. We are so well trained that we are our own domesticator. We can now domesticate ourselves according to the same belief system we were given, and using the same system of punishment and reward.

The belief system is like a Book of Law that rules our mind. Without question, whatever is in it, is our truth. We base all of our judgments according to the Book of Law, even if these judgments go against our inner nature.

The agreement is so strong that even if we understand the concept of it not being true, we feel the blame, the guilt, and the shame that occur if we go against the rules. Anything that challenges what you believe makes you feel unsafe.”
-The Four Agreements

The statements below are personal to my “book of law”. My hope is that they spark a curiosity of your own subconscious codes. When we can bring the beliefs into the light of our conscious minds, they enter the realm of choice…
Is this an idea I want to perpetuate? If not, who do I want to be? And what habits do I need to form to become that?

Existing belief: Jill is a sweet, quiet girl who doesn’t have anything to say. She’s just an observer.

Rewritten belief: Jill is a leader. And even in her silence, she leads. A powerful creator who refuses to be a prisoner of her own mind or the minds of others. She is dense with a revelation that demands to be shared. She dares to let it be seen and received by those who may disagree. She is made resilient by the love she shows herself and the love of those who matter deeply to her.

Existing belief:
I’m a victim of my emotions. I am ruled by my volatility.

Rewritten belief: I integrate the wisdom of my emotions through having a relationship with them and channel them into the creation of beauty. I am a queen of my conduct, ruling over my soul with a calm strength. My authority is safe because I have my best interest in mind.

Existing belief: Others decide who I am and what I do. I don’t trust myself to know what’s best for me. Be what you think others want you to be. Abandon your intuition. Disconnect from your core.

Rewritten belief: I’m in service to the subtle movements of my soul. Other’s dreams for me are powerless in the presence of the dream that bubbles up from the bottom of my own sea. I am in the driver’s seat of my destiny.

Existing belief: Look as stiff and down trodden as people around you. If no one else is moving, don’t you dare move.

Rewritten belief: I give everyone around me permission to be looser and freer in their expressions by moving as I feel inspired to.

Existing belief:
Being insecure and small is safe

Rewritten belief: Being insecure and small is unsafe. I miss opportunities that way, and others miss out on my rich essence. Playing small breeds regret. I’m a big player. I think big, I feel big, I stay grounded in my practices and reality.

Existing belief:
I want to run away from this world

Rewritten belief: I want to be here with these energies. I am a transformer. I face what needs to be transformed. I’m deeply gratified by this work. I have purpose.

Existing belief: Anger is my main source of power and feeling in control.

Rewritten belief: Serenity is my main source of power and feeling in control.

Simply writing out what I felt was in my Book of Law made me realize I could be something different.

I’m not a victim of these patterns.

I’m a seer and creator of my patterns.

And the next step is to become a master of integration and positive habit forming.

How do I embody these updated codes?

Now it gets interesting ;)….

What’s in your book of law???
